Getting Japanese Support on Your Computer (Windows XP)

What you need:
Your Windows XP CD

Alright, I’m going to go into detail with this how to. A monkey should be able to read and follow along to this with ease.

Now there are screenshots for this little how to, but I have my control panel set to classical view. So your screen may look a bit different from mine. If you want to switch to classical view (imo it’s a lot easier to get around then category view) click the “Switch to Classical View” button at the top left part of the window.

First thing you need to do is click the “Language” tab and check the box that says “Install files for East Asian Languages”

Now, click the “Advanced” tab, and under where it says Code page conversion tables check the box for Japanese (and any other language that you want to have support for on your computer) I personally, have everything on that list checked. I’d rather see the language’s writing system, then seeing a bunch of boxes or ?????. But it’s all up to you.

Click Apply. (if it asks you if you want to reboot, click no)

Now, the pull down list above is optional. Selecting Japanese will basically allow you to run Japanese programs (games for instance) properly (full JP support). [b]BUT[/b], if you try and install a few select programs (VLC Media Player, Nero, Quicktime, iTunes), THEY WILL BE INSTALLED IN THE JAPANESE LANGUAGE. So I suggest if you don’t know Japanese, don’t set this to Japanese unless you really need to. Or if you want to screw around.

Click Apply, and reboot your computer.

Thats it! You can now view Japanese on your computer~
